Research shows MySpace crowd less college educated than Facebook
With the increasingly popular Facebook social network, students and adults worldwide have now added Facebook login in with the necessary daily activities that include eating, drinking, sleeping, and using the bathroom. The interesting part to me, however, is that nearly 90% of those people are either college bound, currently attending a university, or already graduated with a Bachelor’s degree.
On the flip side, MySpace continues to be the second most popular social network behind Facebook, and while MySpace login too has seen it’s inclusion into the everyday activities of human beings, the statistics on college bound, attendee, and graduated members of MySpace is far lower, with an estimated less than 10% of all MySpace users being college educated, attending currently, or university bound.
The reason for the difference? Well, for starters, Facebook began offering services to Harvard students only as a barrier to entry. This guarantees a nearly 100% group of college users. In a way, Facebook’s exclusivity to college students was a haven for MySpace to snap up all of the rest. Eventually, Facebook would open it’s services to all universities one by one, and then the general public. However, the original rules of Facebook are a good reason as to why MySpace surged alongside its counterpart and has a less educated crowd.
